WordPress: WordPress is a popular, free, open-source blogging tool and content management system. The system allows users to utilize either a downloadable blogging program or a hosted website at www.wordpress.com. WordPress is one of the most popular blogging platforms in the world, with more than 6 million websites published to date.

WordPress was created by Matt Mullenweng and Mike Little and released in 2003 as a continuation of their previous software, b2/cafelog. Technically, WordPress is a fork of the original software, in which an existing software receives additional and independent development, creating a schism and an entirely new product. The current software has a number of benefits for users, including the ability to switch between different themes, customize with plugins, and even optimize blogs for mobile usage.

But while WordPress is often marketed to business owners and offers features that would be advantageous to a company website (such as mobile optimization), it is typically better to build a brand on a non-WordPress domain. The reasons for this are numerous: not only do businesses usually have more freedom to design their website outside of WordPress, but a domain name without the WordPress tag is generally believed to create a more consistent brand image.
