Flash: Flash is a vector graphics-based animation software owned by Adobe Systems. Formerly known as Macromedia Flash and Shockwave Flash, this software creates an easier way to make websites look rich and interactive. Unfortunately, search engines often struggle with indexing and ranking websites that use Flash because the software typically contains little relevant content.

Flash was originally created by the American computer programmer Johnathan Gay, using the application SmartSketch, and was originally published by the company FutureWave Software. Called FutureSplash, the software was used by Microsoft and Disney Online. However, FutureSplash was acquired by Macromedia in 1996, who re-released the product as Flash. When Macromedia was purchased by Adobe Systems in 2005, Flash was part of the transfer. Currently, Flash has the most success with low cost commercial and television animation: the Academy Award-winning film The Book of Kells was one project animated with Flash. However, Adobe has stopped supporting mobile optimization and other uses due to a possible decline in demand.
