Our business is to help clients get more business from the search engines... but we are a business too and we use our website to help generate leads for new customers. Business results are 1/2 related to driving quality traffic and 1/2 related to having the right product for the prospect that lands on your site. There are most certainly some other parts to business success but we'll leave that for another blog -- these two are the ones that I want to focus on.
I often refer to the primary visual on your homepage as the "infographic." This is the main visual that people/businesses place above the fold. It is the equivalent of your elevator pitch. If you can't clearly communicate your value proposition people are likely to go on to the next web site to find what they need. So the 1 - 2 punch is to drive people who need your service to your website and then clearly tell them that you have what you need.
We have a few partnership deals in the works that led us to want to revisit our "infographic" with something that didn't require scrolling between different pictures. I had read a post about a company running some tests on conversion rates with different infographics or videos on their homepage.
