we've been doing seo video blogs now for about six months, and we are proof that it works. Westarted with essentially zero organic referrals, and now we're getting about 150 new visitors to our website every day. They're coming in via the 75 or 80 video blog posts that we've done over the past several months. We invest about 30 minutes a day, and it pays off. The only question left is....How to start a video blog? Watch this seo video blog and find out!

Hello, and welcome to our how to start a video blog video. I'm Chad Hill, and I have Adam Stetzer here with me today.
Good afternoon, Chad. We talk about the importance of onsite content in the SEO equation all the time. You've heard it a million times. Content is king.
You and I have read it. It somehow just doesn't sink in always, right? Or maybe it's because it's hard to do, that people resist updating their websites, even though they read time and time again-- more content, keyword focused content, useful content, content that's engaging to end users is really gonna make your website fly in the search engines.
So our hot tip today, of course, is video blogging. There's a lot of hype about video blogging. I think people are probably intimidated by the seo video blog, and just don't know how to start a video blog. So let's help our viewers out. How do you do it?
Yeah. Well, the first thing is that, as you said, it's obvious that this is a very important thing for people to do is to put new content on their website. But we're all strapped for time. And so let's talk about what we did.
We set out to video blog, but one of our constraints was, we wanted to be able to do this in about 30 minutes a day. That included prep time, recording, and then the actual production and to get it up on the website. So in order for us to hit that objective, we had to use something that was fairly easy to record the videos.
We selected Google Hangouts. So we're using a Google Hangout now, which, fortunately, and in a very nice way, records this and posts it to YouTube. So that's where we started was picking a very simple way to blog, but then let's talk about like what keywords we use when we actually talk in these video blogs, Adam. So how do we do that?
Yeah. So the first barrier, as you say, is technical. How to start a seo video blog. I don't know how to do it. Google makes that pretty easy.
But then the second point is, then, what are you going to talk about? And the reason this only takes us 30 minutes a day is we're talking about things that we know that we're passionate about, that are the things we do every day. And we've said this in many of our video blogs-- every business has these assets in the brains of the people who run the business or are in the company.
And so what you need to do is just figure out how to pull those topics out and match those up with keywords that actually have demand on them. And that's really no different than any onsite SEO strategy would do. It starts with identifying demand.
We have blogs on this. We have videos on this. Go take a look at those. But instead of writing a blog post, you're going to record one in the format of a video blog.
Right. So typically we schedule a time every day around noon, four days a week, because we set the goal that we wanted four video blogs per week. So we get 20 a month, roughly. You typically do about five minutes of keyword research before we have our meeting at noon. You send a keyword out, and then I spend a few minutes actually putting together some thoughts-- usually three bullets on how I might answer the question we're going to talk about.
And then, like we do now, we just essentially go back and forth and discuss those three points. I usually introduce them, and Adam then responds and adds some things on. But the format's very familiar, and we can usually make it through these recordings without multiple takes, and it really does take us maybe 10 minutes at the most to get this production right.
And when I think it starts to become fun is when there's a little bit of interaction. People are watching them, and they ask questions, and they want more details. That becomes a topic for a new video blog. Or employees in our company want some more knowledge or training on something-- that becomes another topic that you can shoot for a later video blog. So once you sort of get the process rolling, get over those initial technological challenges, schedule the time-- as Chad said, just make it a discipline, we're going to do this-- set a few goals, you'll see that this process starts to pick up steam.
And then, of course, the bottom line is, does it help with your SEO? Because once you see those results, Chad, right? You're hooked, and you're going to want to shoot more and more.
Right. So let's talk to that. And there's a bunch of other technical things that we can maybe discuss in another video blog. But we've been doing this now for about six months, and what we've been able to show is that we started with basically zero organic referrals. So new traffic referred from search engines.
Started with zero, and now we're getting about 150 new visitors to our website every day who are coming in off the 75 or 80 roughly posts that we've done over the past several months. So I think that the proof is in the pudding there, that we set out with an objective to get this done, to expand the content of our website, and now we're starting to see the investment we've made pay off.
And I think it's important, probably, to see, if you've got a good hosting package for your video serving that will show you this, how long people are staying with your videos, how long into them they're watching. That will help you course correct.
Are we making these too long? Are we packing enough punch? Are we too dry? Are our topics not good?
And so you can start to fine tune it over time. But the important part is, get the discipline going, get it out there, and then, just like anything, start to study the analytics and see what you need to do.
